Guideline for Employees of EDCL

  • Courses are offered though the day on a part-time basis i.e. one day per week for block of weeks
  • Requirements of 4800 hours to complete: 3720 on the job and 780 in class
  • Students who have taken the courses that match the outcomes of Apprenticeship courses will get exemptions under the Prior Learning Recognition system
  • 85% of the course are covered by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, 15% by the student
  • In order to register to become an Apprentice, they sign up with the Ministry, pay $40.00 and must prove that they have a high school diploma (or G.E.D.)
  • Employees who register and are ready to begin attending the classroom portion, must take a vacation, float day or comp time, with prior approval from your Manager for the days off, requested on the appropriate forms and within the required amount of time
  • We will allow employees to be off to attend the classroom portion as follows:
    • 2 from the Assisted Living Centre who are on the opposite shifts
    • 2 from Reid Woods who are on the opposite shifts
    • 1 from ARC Industries
    • 1 from Life Skills
    • 1 from each of the other residence
  • Upon completion of the DSW Apprenticeship Certificate, students have the option to receive their DSW Ontario College Diploma by completing 2 other courses. Details are available from the Ministry or from the college

Depending on our budgets at the time of completion, and with proper receipts and proof of successful completion, EDCL may reimburse the employee half of their tuition.
