Direct Support

Work directly with individuals with a developmental disability to make a positive personal impact

Volunteers must:

 – Be at least 18 years old (positions for youth 16 – 18 years are available, but limited)

– Willing to make a minimum 12 week commitment

– Complete a screening process including: application, interview, reference check, police records check (VSC)

PHOTOGRAPHERS & VIDEOGRAPHERS

Calling all those with creative knack for capturing moments that matter on camera. We are looking for impactful, high-resolution images to share in print and digital media. This project-based position works in collaboration with EDCL employees and other volunteers to meet the objectives and timelines for each project (a variety of events and projects will be posted throughout the year). Project needs and time commitment vary, but are flexible to meet your availability.

We are looking for photographers with:

  • A high-resolution camera and related equipment
  • The knowledge, skills and access to photo software to edit images
  • Experience capturing people and emotions to contribute to positive story telling
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as, to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills for photo management; and
  • Attention to detail for a polished and professional product presentation

Projects Currently Available:

  1. Photo Bank Boost (Now through April 20)
  2. Smile Cookie Campaign (approx. April 21-May 5, dates/times TBD)
COMMUNITY COMPANION

Enjoy getting out in the neighbourhood or explore the Region of Waterloo – together! Community Companions accompany an individual with an intellectual disability (or small group) to see and do things that are fun and interesting! Visit museums, watch a movie, attend a Titans or Sugar Kings game, play bingo, swim at the local rec centre or walk to a coffee shop to enjoy a nice hot beverage…these are just some of the many activities that await you.

Must be 18 years or older.

READER

Many of the people we support love a good story! This easy commitment of an hour a week brings joy and connection to both reader and listener. Grab a book and prepare to bring words to life in a way that draws the listener in. Suggestions for books or genres will be provided.

Must be 16 years or older.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS & COMMITTEES

Members of the Board bring leadership and strategic governance to our organization, using a diverse set of skills and qualities. Members of a committee are formed by the Board of Directors for a specific purpose and period of time. We often look for experience in finance, banking or accounting; facilities maintenance, construction, or real estate; planning, strategic development; fundraising and more.
