Community is enriched by Volunteers!

Elmira District Community Living believes that when diverse voices, abilities, and interests come together on purpose, these shared experiences:

  • Create opportunity for unique friendships and enhanced citizenship
  • Contribute to the learning and growth of each unique individual
  • Develop advocacy for those whose voice needs to be heard
  • Strengthen our commitment to and sense of belonging to a community

By engaging volunteers in our mission, Elmira District Community Living will:

  • Treat everyone involved with dignity and respect
  • Provide inclusive opportunities that are interesting and accessible
  • Recognize the contributions made in uniquely meaningful ways

Join us, in our journey to build communities of belonging!

We ask volunteers to:

  • Be at least 18 years old (positions for youth 16 – 18 years are available, but limited)
  • Make a minimum 12 week commitment
  • Complete a screening process which includes an application, interview, reference check, and a police records check.

COMMUNITY COMPANION

Enjoy getting out in the neighbourhood or explore the Region of Waterloo – together! Community Companions accompany an individual with an intellectual disability (or small group) to see and do things that are fun and interesting! Visit museums, watch a movie, attend a Titans or Sugar Kings game, play bingo, swim at the local rec centre or walk to a coffee shop to enjoy a nice hot beverage…these are just some of the many activities that await you.

Must be 18 years or older.
