The Developmental Services Planning and Advisory Council of Waterloo Region received funding from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services through the mental health investments initiative. This funding has translated into specific research on service access for people living with a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability). On this site, the research summary and systems pathways tool highlight the successes and barriers to service for people with a dual diagnosis living in Waterloo Region.
The research conducted in 2021 outlines the systemic barriers and current links between Developmental and Mental Health services. It summarizes the findings from the research.
The Systems Pathway provides service users, families, and service providers information on the current links to mental health services for people with dual diagnosis in Waterloo Region.
The EMS (emergency medical services) toolkit is to support first responders and emergency departments when they are faced with someone in crisis. This is an opportunity to link or reconnect developmental services into the life of a person in crisis and assist with discharge and service planning.
